April Showers…

We all know the saying, “April Showers Bring May Flowers,” but we rarely take that into consideration when living in a desert climate. With such a small amount of precipitation coming down in our city per year, we often don’t use the proper preparation techniques to ready our homes for the wear and tear associated with these weather conditions. Without preparation, if we are to get an abnormal amount of rain, sleet, or hail during this April season, substantial damage can occur. As we jump into our wettest season of the year, the CODR team thought it would be a good idea to give you some home preparation tips.

The first and most important preparation step when entering this season is to clean your gutters. If you cleaned your gutters before the winter season, you may think they would still be clean coming into the spring; however, with snowfall comes a lot of other debris from trees that can clog your gutters disallowing proper drainage.

Another important element to keep your home clean during this season is to scrub your walls, baseboard, and outlets. Grab a sponge with mild soap and water and scrub your walls and baseboards. Unscrew your outlets and wipe them down back and front. This is especially important in kitchens and restrooms where the humidity is most high. By doing this, you will prevent mildew and allergens from accumulating and help keep the air inside your home fresh and clean.

A third and vital step is to remove any low hanging branches that could potentially fall onto your home. With the rain and wind can come lots of falling debris. Removing low hanging branches reduces the risk of damage to the roof of your home. While trimming the branches, inspect the exterior of your home for any cracks, clogs, or obvious issues. While these small steps may sound cumbersome, they will greatly increase the longevity of your home if done regularly. In any case, if you fall into the unfortunate circumstance where something happened to your home, we are here 24/7 to help. Just give us a call at 541-318-7853 and we will be there as soon as possible to get your home back to it’s pristine shape.
