For years, CODR marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month by donating a portion of our October revenue to breast cancer research, including a $5,000 gift to METAvivor after Pink October 2023. Research matters. But we kept thinking about the people right here at home, the ones fighting breast cancer while still paying rent, getting to appointments, and caring for their families.
So in 2024, we changed how we give. Now we ask you to nominate a Central Oregonian who is fighting breast cancer, and we give financial support directly to them.
What we’ve learned from your nominations
The stories you’ve shared have been about grit and about love. Marti, a nurse, spent her days caring for others until breast cancer and serious complications turned her own life upside down. Her friend called her “a true inspiration.” Becky’s mom wrote that Becky keeps a smile on and tells people she’s taking it one day at a time. Darci’s nominator described her as “a ray of sunshine”: a school secretary who kept showing up for the kids at her school all through chemo. Lindsey, diagnosed at 38, met the news with laughter and a strength her friend says lifts everyone around her.
Since 2024, CODR has given $18,000 directly to ten Central Oregonians fighting breast cancer. Every person nominated received support: $5,000 for each year’s recipient, Darci in 2024 and Lindsey in 2025, and $1,000 for every other nominee.
Nominate someone this October
- Nominations are open October 1–23.
- Anyone living in Central Oregon who is currently in treatment for breast cancer can be nominated. Breast cancer affects men too, and all Central Oregonians are welcome.
- We reach out privately to every nominee before anything is shared publicly.
- Every nominee will receive financial support. On October 30, we’ll announce one nominee, selected at random, who will receive $5,000. Another $5,000 will be shared equally among all other nominees, and every nominee will also receive a care package from our team.
